Abstract

THE CAPACITY of students for misusing ‘g’ is referred to in most textbooks on mechanics, and various devices are offered for getting ‘g’ in the right place, m = being the commonest. The author suggests that students get ‘g’ wrong not because they are incompetent, but because hardly one textbook agrees with another on the definition of weight and ‘g’.
