Abstract

A surprisingly large number of children have a ‘feel’ for the relationships between numbers‐the difficulty is to capture their interest right from the start. Mathematics at Your Finger‐tips (colour, 29 minutes) illustrates one innovation, the Cuisenaire Rods, that can be used for teaching maths to beginners. (These were described in an article by J. V. Trivett, ‘Fresh Thinking in Mathematics’, TECHNICAL EDUCATION, Vol 2, No 3, March 1960.)
