Abstract

A new film shot by Cambridge University Department of. Education is intended to introduce teachers to the principles and techniques of programmed learning. Teaching Machines and Programmed Learning (b & w, 17 min) is a calm, factual account of how the various devices work and what they do. It assumes little or no previous knowledge of the subject and deals impartially with a range of machines and devices from the complex to the simple — including programmed texts — without overselling them or putting anyone needlessly on the defensive.
