Abstract

Early this month at Liverpool University the National Union of Students conducted their affairs in a bear‐garden atmosphere more fitting to the Royal Zoological Society than to a believable educational pressure group. During the course of their blood‐letting, it was established that the opinion of the ‘man in the street’ was of no consideration. It would be seemly to bring the attention of the students to conclusions that we drew from our survey from the South Wales coalfield, in particular the results of the three‐valley analysis. What, while performing their three‐act farce, the students neglected to remember was that they are totally dependent upon the working inhabitants of such communities for their continued, subsidized, and comfortable non‐productive existence at college.
