Abstract

Throughout this issue there has been a deliberate emphasis on the links between schools, colleges and industry which might help to encourage the school‐leaver to move into an industrial career. What it shows is encouraging, since work of a similar nature is also occurring elsewhere — what it doesn't show is the varied success it might have pace the student. Miss Youngman left her Bedford grammar school aged 18, with only one A‐level. Due to personal circumstances, she did not go on to full‐time further education, but became a research assistant with Unilever, on ONC day‐release to the local college. This is her account of what it is like to be a young day‐release student.
