Abstract

The need to retrain adults is now new though the associated difficulties probably loom largest in the lives of the disabled — those unfortunate enough to be injured in accidents, or stricken by serious illness. The Way Back (b/w, 20 min), produced for the Department of Employment and Productivity, makes the important point that most people find their ability to work fulfils a fundamental need. The Department helps in many ways those who have difficulty returning to everyday life after illness or injury, and the film probes to see how this help supplements that given by the normal medical services, and the sort of success that can be expected.
