Abstract

Utopia, according to the Government, is going to be reached well before 1980 and teachers will be running out of our ears. A new set of statistics, superseding the prosections made in the famous Ninth Report of the much‐lamented National Advisory Council on the Training and Supply of Teachers, was issued as a New Year present in the first week of January, and a surplus of qualified teachers — on the most pessimistic set of the Department of Education and Science projections — was forecast after 1979. On the more optimistic view of the rate of wastage from the profession, a surplus will be reached two years earlier.
