Abstract

The (Redcliffe‐Maud) Report of the Royal Commission on Local Government in England holds out a dismal prospect for further education. In return for reorganization and rationalization it proposes that local authorities should have greater freedom of action. In the provision of many services the gains of rationalization will greatly outweigh the losses of national co‐ordiation. In the case of further education the losses will greatly outweigh the gains.
