Abstract

While Edge Hill College provides an annual residential course for those who can spare a week of their Christmas holiday, its chief contribution to in‐service training has been the full‐time courses which have been mounted since 1965. The earlier one‐term courses have now been superseded by the one year Diploma courses in counselling and careers work. The courses are open to qualified teachers who should normally have at least five years' teaching experience. There is, of course, no ‘ideal’ applicant. Some of those who have taken the course have had wide experience in and out of teaching, others are near the beginning of their careers. Whatever their background or age, group members bring a great deal to a year where study methods emphasise participation and the discussion of course materials in the light of their common experience.
