Abstract

Home Economics today is an up‐and‐coming profession. Thanks to American and Canadian influence it has become a fashionable and respected career in western society. Along with advancing technology, the Home Economist has emerged from the image of the harassed cookery teacher to the skilled link position she now holds between ourselves and our technology. In the old days the profession was limited to cookery, needlework, household or institutional management; one either taught them or did them in order to earn a living. Although these subjects still form part of a modern Home Economist's repertoire they are only a few of the areas in which she now has to be the expert.
