Abstract

From a 1978 survey The British Personnel Director it would appear that I am atypical as, out of 88 companies, they found only one woman, while Mr. Average Personnel Director was a 47‐year‐old graduate responsible for 5,000 employees and earning £12,600 with no share of the profits. I, as a female, was made a director at the age of 34 years and, having not yet quite reached the average age, have responsibility for 8,000 UK employees plus 3,400 overseas and, I'm pleased to say, am paid more than the men and also participate in a profit‐sharing scheme. Also the title director is not just cosmetic, as I am a main board member; which again appears unusual (end of Mohammed Ali commercial!).
