Viewpoint: Half a wage is better than no bread

Abstract

A surprisingly large number of jobs are designed to be staffed for a specified number of hours per day — usually eight — and for five days a week. But this arrangement is now being questioned in an increasing variety of cases. Indeed, the search for the ideal arrangement of working hours is under way.
