Abstract

Accountancy is undoubtedly the most fragmented profession of all at the present time. As long ago as 1968 a scheme for its unification was published, with the intention of providing for three professional bodies of accountants — one for England & Wales, one for Scotland, and one for Ireland. Below this there would probably have been a “second tier” body of accounting technicians.
