Viewpoint: Keep the flag flying by raising the standard

Abstract

In contrast with the United Kingdom, where there is only one independent university, in many countries of the world the private sector plays an important role in higher education. Witness the importance of non‐state colleges and universities in such diverse nations as Japan and the United States of America; while in a small country like Switzerland non‐state colleges feature prominently in the provision of management education.
