The British accountant and the European Economic Community

Abstract

The member states of the European Economic Community are at present the original six partners — Belgium, France, Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Netherlands — plus three — Denmark, Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom — plus, later, Greece and, more recently, Portugal and Spain. Relations in the twelve member states vary from the highly cordial to the openly hostile. This article will not enter political controversy or seek to justify the inclusion or adherence of any country — including the UK — in the EEC; nevertheless, the Community is a fact and this country is a member state.
