Abstract

Trainer's aid Getting to grips with Training and Development is a flexible, inexpensive and effective method of developing the skills of people who have limited training expertise but whose job incorporates some responsibility for this function. It comprises seven development units plus a guide each for the manager and the tutor. There is free telephone back‐up from Industrial Training Service (ITS), and it is available by mail order for £150. The emphasis is on practical action and results, and methods of self‐review, concepts, exercises, activities and action plans are all incorporated. The result is a package which can be studied and used both in and away from the workplace. The seven units comprise an introduction on the contribution of training to business success, what trainers do, how to start, what approach to take, how to design a training event, getting the best out of people, and evaluating results. All these have a direct bearing on organisational success.
