Abstract

Among the numerous problems arising in the protection of power and telecommunications cables, whether aluminium‐ or lead‐sheathed, is how to prevent the phenomenon known as ‘phenol corrosion,’ which, it is commonly believed, is due to the presence of phenolic compounds in the servings. Recently, however, new light has been thrown on this and other aspects of corrosion resistance, and the subject was one of several discussed at the symposium on cable sheathing, organised by the Corrosion Group of the Society of Chemical Industry. Abstracts of the papers read at the symposium are given below.
