Abstract

The prevention of corrosion has always been an important factor in the cable and wire industry and with the widening of activities through the mergers that formed the present BICC organisation it became evident that the existing knowledge on corrosion was insufficient to solve all the specific problems associated with the industry. Accordingly, in 1949, a new section was added to the BICC research organisation, and the corrosion research laboratory was established at Kirkby, near Liverpool, its purpose being to specialise entirely in the study and prevention of corrosion. The laboratory forms part of the company's large research organisation, the main sections of which are situated at Wood Lane, Shepherds Bush, London.
