Abstract

In the past, wood has always been a material of interest to the chemical engineer because of its directional strength and non‐corroding properties, but in its natural state there are certain inherent disadvantages, such as dimensional instability (due to high moisture absorption), bacterial attack and liability to insect attack. How to make the product more uniform, therefore, has been the objective of development engineers at Permali Ltd., of Gloucester, and the successful outcome is a material known as BH Permali.
