This extract from an article by H. S. Preiser and B. H. Tytell is reprinted from the April 1959 issue of American Society of Naval Engineers Journal. Mr. Preiser is a corrosion engineer for the research and development division of the Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, in charge of cathodic protection. Mr. Tytell is a research chemist in charge of the research, development and consulting section of the chemical laboratory at the Boston Naval Shipyard
