The departmental information professional: a role of increasing importance
Abstract
Neither end‐user searching nor centralized information services seem able to fully meet the information needs of scientists in industries like pharmaceuticals and chemicals. To fill the gap, a more specialized role, that of the departmental information professional, has been developing. These professionals, holding both scientific degrees and an ALA‐approved MLS, function within company departments, performing online searches, and developing departmental libraries and databases.
