Abstract

The 1990's will be a period of growing skills shortages, at a time when the demographic trend will be to a drastic fall in the numbers of young employees and an aging workforce overall. Employers, with others, will need to take various actions to augment their employee resources, in order to operate in an increasingly demanding environment or even survive. A number of interesting innovations by progressive employers are already suggesting a range of appropriate actions for the 1990s.
