Abstract

Our analysis of Japanese and US employment and wage systems examined institutional constraints upon firms' human resource systems, especially for high performance workplaces. We also examined the effect of firms' practices upon macroeconomic policy and outcomes. In this paper, we focus on two of the interactions between firm practices and institutional structures:
