Abstract
THE 100‐h.p. Clerget heavy‐oil engine has now reached the development stage—five of the type have been constructed—and it is now possible to give a complete description of it. The 200‐h.p. type (of which a photograph is given), which was exhibited at the Salon, is generally similar in design, except that the pumps and their control mechanism have been moved to the front to leave room for a compressor on the back‐plate. The characteristics of the 100‐h.p. engine, described here, are: Bore, 120 mm. (4¾‐in.) stroke, 130 mm. (5?‐in.), weight, 228 kg. (5031b.); power, 100 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. The characteristics of the 200‐h.p. type are: Bore, 130mm. (5?‐in.); stroke, 170 mm. (6–11/16‐in.); weight, 310 kg. (683 lb.); power, 208 b.h.p. at 1,700 r.p.m.
