Gusts in the Upper Atmosphere: Their Existence and Possible Effects on Aeroplanes
Abstract
THE effect on an aeroplane in a terminal nose‐dive of meeting a horizontal gust is a structural strength question that has not, we believe, been previously considered. The calculations on the subject made by Mr. Crowe, which appear in this issue, will therefore no doubt be examined with interest by designers and those responsible for framing the regulations on which the stressing of aeroplanes depends.
