Abstract

This report is a concise analysis of production during the war years at the eleven factories making Daimler‐Benz engines. The output in 1944 was 28,669 compared with 3,681 in 1939. The effects of shortages (steel and small forgings were the most critical) and bomb damage are given. German authorities interviewed were of opinion that if engine factories had been attacked more than airframe ones the damage would have had a more far‐reaching effect, but in 1944 the engine factories were dispersed underground causing a drop in output.
