Abstract
A new interference microscope has been introduced by C. Baker of Holborn Ltd, 244 High Holborn, London, W.C.1, to meet the stringent modern demands in assessment and control of surface finishes. The new instrument is not intended to replace the better known methods of assessing surface finish, such as recording stylus operated devices. However, it has a number of advantages not available in the conventional instruments and it is thought that it will be complementary to existing methods. It is certain that the present gap between laboratory and industrial practices can be considerably narrowed by this development.
