A New Approach to Fatigue Testing: A Description of the Dowty Rotol Range of Random Load Fatigue Testing Machines
Abstract
DURING the immediate post‐war years various techniques were adopted to improve the static strength of light alloys. Aircraft designers were quick to take advantage of these increased values with the result that stress levels generally were raised. Unfortunately the fatigue strength of the material was not improved at the same rate and a series of structural failures in the air dictated urgent investigation. At a later stage a similar situation arose during the strength development of steels.
