Abstract

ON the face of it, the decision to order McDonnell Phantoms to replace the Sea Vixen fighters currently in service with the Royal Navy might appear to be a logical and indeed highly satisfactory solution to a particularly pressing re‐equipment problem. Only a limited number of the Sea Vixen replacement aircraft arc required and it would certainly have proved expensive and time‐consuming to have initiated the design development and production of a brand new type exclusively for service with the Royal Navy.
