Abstract

A Description of the Dixi Machine Tool which is being used by Sperry to Machine Components for the Ship's Inertial Navigation System and for Twin Gyro Platforms. AS one of Britain's leading manufacturers of precision aero, marine and gunnery control instrumentation for both the home and export markets, Sperry Gyroscope Co. Ltd. are particularly concerned with producing components to a high standard of accuracy, at minimum cost in the least possible time. In short, the emphasis is on high productivity and high precision. As far as machine tools for production are concerned, this leads inevitably to numerical control. As far as Sperry's particular requirement for a numerically‐controlled horizontal jig boring machine capable of sustained accuracies down to ±0·0002 in. was concerned, this led inevitably to the Dixi 75 ANE.
