Abstract

Brief Particulars of Recently Introduced Materials likely to have Aircraft, Missile or Space Vehicle Applications. A new time‐saving impregnation process for sealing all micro‐porous metal castings—ferrous and non‐ferrous—is now available in the U.K. Companies approached on the introduction of the process to this country from America only six months ago, and who have already adopted it, include Decca, Rolls‐Royce and Ultra Electronics. The complete operation takes only 124 minutes, or approximately one‐third of the time normally taken up with existing methods. One outstanding feature of the process is the use of contact curing in a hot oil bath. This completely eliminates any exudation or ‘bleed out’ of the impregnant from the pores of the processed castings, which if cured by ordinary oven methods would require expensive post‐polymerization clean up.
