Abstract

Equipment, Programmes, Techniques and Projects. Tribology, the subject of the Jost Report in 1966, is the study of interacting surfaces in relative motion and the sciences related thereto. In recent months, tribology has become more important, not only from engineering design aspects, but from the economic advantages derived from correct tribodesign. The savings estimated in the Jost report, by using this knowledge, are in the order of £515,000,000 per annum, a sum equivalent to our balance of payments deficit.
