Abstract

IN 1945, M. A. Miner presented his approach for cumulative damage in metal fatigue to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In this approach, the expended life of a specimen is defined to be equal to the summation of the number of cycles that are applied at each different stress level when expressed as a percentage of the number of cycles that would cause failure. The Miner approach is mathematically expressed as shown in equation (1).
