Abstract

The first Super Trident Three made its maiden flight recently in the hands of Mr. John Cunningham, Executive Director and Chief Test Pilot at Hawker Siddeley's Hatfield factory. On completion of flight testing this aircraft will be delivered to The People's Republic of China. Although this aircraft is externally similar to the Trident Three in service with British Airways, the all‐up‐weight of the Super Trident Three has been increased by 8,000 lb. as a result of design refinement after structural testing. This has enabled the installation of an additional fuel tank and a 25% increase in maximum payload range. Fuel capacity of this latest version of the Trident is 380 imperial gallons more than the standard Trident Three and the range is increased by 430 statute miles (700 km.) to 2,100 statute miles (3,300 km.). The seating capacity of the Super Trident Three, of which this is the first of two of this version for the Civil Aviation Administration of China, will be for 152 passengers, an increase of 35% over the CAAC Trident Two's currently in service.
