Abstract

THE idea of a freighter variant of the Boeing 747 has seemed attractive from the early days of service experience with this type. Recent developments that improve the versatility of the aircraft have enabled a number of options to be available to the operator who wants to incorporate main deck cargo capacity without forfeiting the ability to carry passengers. Cargo on the main deck is of course, in addition to the lower hold containers common to all versions of the aircraft, these having already been well‐publicised in routine passenger‐carrying operations.
