TURBOMECA'S Answer to the Weight Problem

Abstract

The AS 332 Super Puma helicopter is certainly one of the best examples of French creativity and illustrates why the French aeronautical industry is claiming an increasingly significant position on the international marketplace. This new generation helicopter is 100% French: the airframe is made by the Helicopter Division of Société AEROSPATIALE and the turbines, which embody advanced technology, by Société TURBOMECA. The present article describes the 1800 hp Makila turbine. The first production unit has just left the factory and preparatory studies, testing and construction have been executed with unprecedented rapidity, while making no concessions in technical matters.
