Abstract

HIGH accuracy nozzle guide assembly parts for Swedish aero‐engines will be machined on a specially equipped six axis Amchem VM1A CNC EDM machine which has recently passed the rigorous acceptance tests demanded by the quality conscious Scandinavian Company. Based on one version of the three axis VM1A the machine has been produced with a rotary manipulator which provides two rotary axes of workpiece movement. A third rotary axis is mounted on the head to provide rotary motion about the Z axis for the electrodes. A novel addition to this system is the mounting of a small grinder on the side of the manipulator so that electrodes may be profiled at any angle whilst mounted in the machine, so reducing time delays and total inventory of electrodes.
