Up to Six Operations Down to One Give Fast Payback

Abstract

BY transferring production of a range of highly precise and intricate precision components to three Traub TNS 30/‐42D CNC mill turning bar cells, the Precision Products Group (PPG) at British Aerospace, Stevenage, has reduced cycle times by an average of 60 percent and significantly reduced work in progress and lead times. On certain components up to six operations have been combined into one set up. The cumulative result is that chief production engineer Terry Cross expects the machines to recoup over £400,000 of investment in less than eighteen months.
