Abstract

Wilfred Ashworth writes: ‘Without a library there would be no meaning to the concept of a Polytechnic,’ said Norman Lindop, Director of Hatfield Polytechnic, when outlining the development plan at the opening of the first phase of the new library building on April 24, 1971. By providing a £57,000 literature budget to supply the needs of 320 academic staff, 1,600 full‐time and 1,000 part‐time students Hertfordshire Education Committee is clearly in tune with the director and Hatfield is one of the favoured polytechnics at the present time.
