Abstract

One would think that librarianship ought to be the most urbane of professions and librarians the most placid of men and women. Out of the main commercial stream of life's hurly burly, in a job which is intrinsically interesting, untaxing work conditions and a high degree of job security, they ought in theory all to be like the dear and lately lamented Archie Sparke and live on and on and on. Not so. And it's worrying.
