Abstract

THE CAUSES of losses of library books may include restrictive loan policies, insufficient copies of in‐demand items, the configuration of the library building—especially secondary exits, high fines, or a general feeling that library books belong to no‐one: ‘property is theft’. It is possible that users have no intention of permanently depriving the library of the item. Books are fair game.
