Abstract

THE FUTURE FORM of publications is an enormous subject which intrigues us all, occupying our professional and private interest. As librarians we must be continually open to the challenge of new needs and demands, and the present changes and future trends for publications merit our closest attention. Many people strongly believe that in the future, industrial librarians must have an expanding commitment to every form of corporate information need, that is to marketing men, sales teams, public relations departments, lawyers, accountants, as well as the chemists and engineers in the research department. If we do consider that all these corporate functions merit our future attention as information specialists, we must look at the future form in which publications will be demanded and used throughout industry and commerce and not just at our handful of isolated and highly specialist information services in the predominantly richer sectors of industry.
