Abstract

One thing that is grabbing the attention of organisations these days is the concept of corporate memory, i.e. retaining, mapping, navigating and retrieving an organisation's knowledge and information resources. The purpose of corporate memory is to enable a complete picture to be built up of all the scientific and technical information, as well as the knowledge and documentation resources of an organisation. This includes not only existing internal documents and reports, either in printed form or contained in computer databases, but also archives, personal libraries and files collected in the course of official duties, as well as the intrinsic knowledge and experience that staff have accumulated in carrying out their work for their company.
