Abstract

EVER since mineral lubricating oils came into use, the practice of lubrication has shown an increasing tendency to use oils lower in viscosity. The reason for this development is obviously the introduction of higher and higher speeds, and, accordingly, an endeavour to reduce the greater frictional losses arising from these higher speeds. Let us analyze the problem by considering the various forms of friction.
