A NEW WATER COOLED OIL COOLER

Abstract

A NEW type of water‐cooled oil cooler, designed primarily for use with I.C. engines of all types, is now being made by Serck Radiators Ltd., Warwick Rd., Birmingham 11. It is intended as a heat exchanger between the oil and water circuits and thereby has a number of advantages over the more conventional air‐cooled cooler. The oil and water are arranged in counterflow in the cooler, and this provides highest efficiency. In addition, however, the coolest water in the circuit is used, with the result that the oil temperature under full‐load conditions is correspondingly lower. The engine can, nevertheless, be warmed up very rapidly because the cooler is always in the water circuit even if the thermostat is allowing water to by‐pass the radiator.
