Abstract

THE WORD “RECLAMATION” in the sense of recovery is scarcely applicable to the general treatment of soluble oils yet, as some proportion is actually regained where it would otherwise have been lost, it is difficult to select an alternative title. Cutting fluids are filtered, cleansed or otherwise processed while in use with the object of “keeping them in” rather than “bringing them into” the desired condition; the users have wholeheartedly adopted the principle that prevention is better than cure. For this reason the emphasis will be on the continuous treatment of oils and coolants in service but two other aspects cannot be neglected : recovery for either re‐use or ultimate disposal and the disposition and possible treatment of swarf.
