Abstract

In an address to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, recently, Victor G. Raviolo, executive director of the Engineering Staff of Ford Motor Company (U.S.A.), described Ford's proposal for air levitated high speed public transportation system— the Levacar. He said that a new series of engines coming about in the mid‐1960's would be the result of research of the last decade. One requirement is an automobile chassis that does not require lubrication, involving lubrication for life at assembly and the use of some lubricationless bearings and axles, transmissions and cooling systems that were sealed off during production.
