Abstract

THE NEW GREASE‐MAKING PLANT at Walkers (Century Oils) Ltd., Hanky, Stoke‐on‐Trent was shown to members of the Press last month. It has only recently been commissioned and has been designed to provide an output of 100 tons a month on a single shift basis, with provision for still further expansion. The designers are Walker's own executive staff and a lot of the equipment has been made locally by engineering firms under Walker's supervision. Before commencing to design this plant, Walker's surveyed many European and American grease plants, and by combining the knowledge thus gained with their own 90 years of experience with previous plants, they claim to have installed the most modern grease making plant in Europe. Not only does it meet their present requirements, but has also been designed to meet any future variation in demand. Equipment includes autoclaves and other pressure vessels, open finishing kettles, milling screening, homogenising and do‐aerating equipment, and of course, the full completent of modern filling and packaging machinery. Some of the filling equipment has also been designed and made by their own staff.
