THE RESEARCH EFFORT SURVEYED No. 2. L'INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE
Abstract
WHEN I first visited the Institut Francais du Petrole on the outskirts of Paris, some years ago, I was impressed with the width of the subject covered in their research laboratories and with the air of bustle and development. Things seemed on the move at Rueil‐Malmaison, south west of Paris, where the Institute did its work, with new buildings going up and the ink still wet, so to speak, on drawings for other departments. And today one can see the results of this planning and activity, which has characterized France as a whole since World War II. One might say that the Institut Francais du Petrole epitomizes the resurgence of this great nation, to which Europe has owed so much in the past.
