Abstract

THE Climax Molybdenum Company of Michigan, a wholly‐owned subsidiary of American Metal Climax, Inc., New York (London Office, The Climax Molybdenum Company, Ltd., 41/47 Strand W.C. 2 recently opened its new research laboratory at 1600 Huron Parkway, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Whilst our interests are solely concerned with lubrication, it should be remembered that Molybdenum plays a very big and important part in a number of engineering fields. The iron and steel industry of the United States used some 40 million pounds of molybdenum in 1964, out of a total of about 47 million pounds, and therefore the largest research emphasis is on both basic and applied research in the area of ferrous metallurgy. Research by Climax has concentrated in this field, but also has been extended to cover molybdenum and tungsten as base metals, as well as the technology and applications of molybdenum chemicals in agriculture, lubricants, catalysts and paint technology. And, of course, there is work in progress in connection with mineral recovery, exploratory research in new areas and various technical services.
